Uri, Aug 13: A soldier was martyred in a fierce gunfight with terrorists after the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir on Wednesday.
Official sources informed that troops engaged infiltrating terrorists in a brief but intense exchange of fire.
“During the operation, one of our soldiers made the supreme sacrifice while valiantly defending the nation,” the sources said.
They said the Army has launched a counter- infiltration and BAT (Border Action Team) operation in the area to track down the attackers.
Search operations were underway in the sector when reports last came in.
Details from the Ground
- The infiltration attempt, believed to have been orchestrated by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT), came under heavy retaliatory fire from alert Indian defenders.
- The Army acted swiftly, foiling the intrusion. However, the attackers benefited from adverse weather and managed to retreat—a common challenge in LoC operations.
- In a social media post, the Chinar Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldier:
“The Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar… Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice.” - Meanwhile, security forces launched a large-scale cordon and search operation across the Uri sector to apprehend any remaining threats.
