India’s military is gearing up to order significant new procurements of the Indo-Russian BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, after they were successfully deployed during Operation Sindoor.
According to ANI, the Defence Ministry is likely to greenlight large-scale BrahMos missile purchases for several platforms inlcuding Veer-class Navy warships, Su-30MKI Air Force aircraft, and ground launch systems. The upgrades will enhance India’s capability to attack across land, air, and sea.
These acquisitions are on the heels of the success of the missile being deployed in a recent four-day standoff against Pakistan, when the Indian Air Force used BrahMos missiles to target terrorist training camps and military installations deep within Pakistani territory. Targets were infrastructure related to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The Indian Navy also utilized BrahMos during the operation, demonstrating combat versatility and operational readiness.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently applauded India’s indigenous weapons, particularly BrahMos, for their performance in Operation Sindoor. He stated, “The world saw the power of our indigenous weapons our air defence capabilities, drones, and particularly the BrahMos missiles as a reflection of self-reliance.”
As one of the primary producers of the missile system, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) is expected to gain from the boost in its stock prices due to the new orders, according to experts.
